Every year the White Mountains of Arizona turn into a car lover’s playground with the Run to the Pines Car Show.
The golf range at Pinetop Lakes Country Club in Pinetop, Arizona, turned into a grassy parking lot with hundreds of cars ranging from classic 1955 Chevys to pre-1973 vehicles.
The festivities kicked off on Friday, Sept. 26, with a cavalcade of classic cars traveling through Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside to Hon-Dah Resort Casino.
The car show took place on Saturday and Sunday.
Bob Gates, president of Run to the Pines, started the car show back in 1984.
“I saw cars up here [in the White Mountains neighborhoods] when going down the road and [noticed] they were in the garage where no one could see them,” Gates said.
“I thought, why not have a car show to give people the opportunity to get a little bit closer to look at them?” Gates continued.
Gates said the car show has grown over the years.
The first one had 20 local cars. Now 31 years later, there are 550 vehicles with owners traveling to the White Mountains of Arizona from all across the country.
Checking out cool cars is just the beginning to the automotive fun people can expect to see at the Run to the Pines Car Show.
There were 50 vendors on site, a live auction and, for the first time, a live band performed at the car show.
A family affair that everyone can enjoy.
“I told my wife that we’ll do this for three or four years,” Gates said. “And now, here we’re 31 years later.”
